Lafayette Square 2023 Summer Concert Line Up

Get out your picnic baskets and pick out your favorite wine for this year’s Lafayette Square Summer Concert Series in Lafayette Park! This summer will feature eight local and regional favorites for exciting concerts in the park.

Each year, Lafayette Park hosts free concerts every other Saturday from 6:00p to 9:00p. The music includes jazz, blues, country, rock, and more. You can stop by, bring dinner and drinks, dance and enjoy the park. Or you check out some of the wonderful neighborhood restaurant vendors available.

If you love music and want to check out the best Lafayette Park has to offer this summer, stop by Lafayette Square for the summer concert series. The kick-off to the summer concerts will be one of the events combined with the Lafayette Spring Home and Garden Tour. This article will present the main bands performing this summer and what to expect for each event.

Power Play Band

June 3, 2023
Jazz, Blues, R&B, Motown, and Disco

The Power Play Band is a Jazz and Blues ensemble with five to eight players that will rock your socks off and keep you dancing all night long. Their specialty is fusing different styles into a lively and engaging atmosphere while giving a powerful performance during their sets.

Be sure to come early to check out the 2023 Lafayette Square Garden Tour and Antique Fair, which will be in full swing during the weekend, beginning at 10:00a.

Dawn Weber Group

Jazz, Rock, Swing, Electronica, and Funk

The Dawn Weber Group features the world-class trumpeter Dawn Weber. She is a master jazz horn player with classical training who covers a wide variety of styles. The group features everything from swing, salsa, and hip-hop to rock, electronica, and funk.

The Dawn Weber Group brings great energy to their shows and is perfect if you love to dance.

Javier Mendoza Band

The Javier Mendoza Band is a St. Louis based group that plays a mix of rock, blues, and Latin music. Led by Javier Mendoza, who lived and studied music in Germany and Spain, the group provides soulful and expressive music that you can sit back and appreciate.

This must-see band has toured extensively throughout the United States. They have shared the stage with some of the biggest names in music, including:

Soulard Blues Band

Formed in 1978, the Soulard Blues Band is the epitome of the vibrant St. Louis blues scene and our immense history with the music genre. They have been performing in our concert series since the beginning and is a neighborhood favorite.

The group honors the blues tradition in St. Louis while introducing modern themes and variations to create a unique and layered sound. Soulard Blues is perfect if you want to hear blues in the St. Louis style.

The Antics

As the longest-running band in Central Illinois, The Antics is a powerhouse classic rock band that knows how to rock and roll. Founded in 1980, they’ve opened for bands such as REO Speedwagon, Styx, and Greg Allman.

While their specialty is primarily cover songs, this band introduces their unique voice and vision in their music and has a few originals of their own that they’ll be happy to share this summer in Lafayette Park.

Jim Steven’s Group

Jim Stevens is a St. Louis-based jazz saxophonist known for his soulful and versatile style. He formed the Jim Steven’s group in 2000 to provide an eclectic mix of funk and jazz for the St. Louis area.

Since its formation, the group has toured across the region and is sure to liven up Lafayette Park this summer.

Ivas John Band

The Ivas John Band is Ivas John’s passion project and a welcome addition to the St. Louis blues and folk scene. Born in Chicago to Lithuanian immigrants, John became immersed in traditional European and American folk music at a young age.

Today, Ivas John lives in Cape Girardeau, MO, and tours the Midwest with his group. They bring a modern interpretation of our region’s blues and folk traditions everywhere they go.

Ralph Butler Band

R&B, Soul, Funk, Blues

Ralph Butler is a St. Louis-based singer and songwriter who has been performing for over 40 years. At a young age, he had a passion for singing that would last the rest of his life. After briefly moving to Los Angeles to immerse himself in the music scene there. He then returned to his hometown St. Louis to form the Ralph Butler Band.

The band considers entertaining and bringing people joy their highest calling and is a tour de force in the St. Louis music scene. If you’re in St. Louis in September, this band is a must-see and the cherry on top of this summer’s Lafayette Square lineup. They are have also been a long standing favorite since the beginning.

Hosted every other Saturday in Lafayette Park, Beginning June 3, a wide variety of bands will perform across genres, including rock, jazz, blues, R&B, and more!

If you’re visiting Lafayette Square this summer for one of the free concerts, check your calendars and be sure to time your stay when one of our talented local bands are performing just across the street inside Lafayette Park. Then BOOK YOUR FAVORITE ROOM at Lehmann House Bed and Breakfast.
