The St. Louis Cardinals Open Their 2023 Season

As the St. Louis Cardinals gear up for their season home opener this Thursday, fans eagerly anticipate what promises to be an exciting and unpredictable season.

While Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina ended their professional careers in 2022, several new players are taking the stage show their talent and to deliver an inspiring season for fans.

The Cardinals 2022 Season in Review

The Cardinals had an unprecedented 2022 season with the return of legendary Albert Pujols for his last year of home runs in his baseball hometown. Starting on the team in 1999, Pujols helped deliver St. Louis two World Series before continuing his career in Los Angeles, then returning home.

On his return to St. Louis before retirement, he became the 4th baseball player in history to hit over 700 home runs. Additionally, he reached 2,216 runs batted in, giving him the second-highest RBI in baseball history.

St. Louis will always remember and cherish the great Albert Pujols as well as Yadier Molina, considered by many as the greatest baseball catchers of all time.

While Molina has ended his baseball career, he has near-legendary status as a catcher with nine Gold Glove awards and four Platinum Glove awards, awarded to the most prestigious catchers in all of baseball. Both players have a strong chance of entering the Baseball Hall of Fame.

What to Expect for the 2023 Season

On the heals of the retirement of Pujols and Molina, several younger players are following in the foot steps of these two baseball giants. Most notably are Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt.

Arenado has a sterling career with ten Gold Gloves and six Platinum Glove Awards. He is the only baseball player to acquire more than four platinum gloves and has dominated the award with Molina since its creation in 2011.

Additionally, Arenado has incredible offensive stats, making him valuable infield at third base and in the outfield as well.

First baseman Paul Goldschmidt is another fantastic player to watch, with devastating (for the other team!) offensive prowess with a bat in hand. In a St. Louisan passing of the torch, former first baseman Pujols presented Goldschmidt with the MVP award for 2022.

These players will join Adam Wainwright and others to create a new team with new dreams to play in the 2023 World Series. While the team may take some time to gel its chemistry, the overwhelming talent gives the Cardinals team excellent potential.
