The St. Louis Art Museum in 2023

St. Louis offers many free attractions to both residents and visitors. One of the premium features of the city is the St. Louis Art Museum, located in Forest Park. With exceptional exhibits presented each year, you probably want to know what to expect in 2023!

Current exhibits running until spring 2023 include art by Meleko Mokgosi, 20th Century German Modernism. There is also the relationship between art in music represented by Sam Young. Exhibitions to look out for in 2023 are works by Monet and Mitchel, Native American abstract art from the late 20th century, and Austrian folk textiles from the early 20th century.

With so many options, the only choice is to spend a day enjoying the best the St. Louis Art museum has to offer.

Where Is the Art Museum Located?

The St. Louis Art Museum (SLAM) is located in Forest Park, one of the largest city parks in the nation. Atop Art Hill, where many locals go sledding in the Winter, SLAM offers artwork from all recorded times and cultures for visitors to enjoy.

Free parking is available in two large lots on the northern side of the Museum. Additional free parking can be found for a mile in any direction through__out the winding lanes of Forest park.

Are There Currently COVID Restrictions?

Currently, there are no COVID restrictions when visiting SLAM. However, visitors are recommended to wear masks.

How Much Does It Cost To Go to the Art Museum?

The St. Louis Art Museum is notable for being free to the public. Visitors can immediately begin enjoying prized artwork from around the world.

However, there are some ticketed exhibits available that cost a nominal fee. However, ticketed exhibitions are free on Fridays.
Tickets are:
$12 per adult
$10 for seniors and students
$6 per child aged 6-12
Free for children five and under

Members of SLAM receive free admission to all ticketed exhibitions, which are free to the public on Fridays.

Currents 122 features new works by Meleko Mokgosi, a Botswana artist and associate professor at Yale. Mokgosi explores the role of the subject through space with work inspired by the french philosopher Foucault.

Day & Dream in Modern Germany

With German artwork from 1914-1945, Day & Dream explores artwork spanning the two world wars and features significant works by Max Beckman and others.

Beckman fled Germany in the 1940s to eventually live in St. Louis, where he became a major artistic influence and professor at Washington University.

Samson Young: Sonata for Smoke

Visit a world of sight and sound as you venture into Samson Young’s Sonata for Smoke. Young brings a modern take on artwork with full-scale installations that marry art and music.

SLAM contains a priceless collection of works by the French artists Monet and Mitchell. These artists were champions of French Impressionism and Abstract Expressionism, respectively.
