The Tower Grove Astronomy Festival is an annual event in St. Louis' picturesque Tower Grove Park. Designed to spark a fascination with the cosmos, it welcomes attendees of all ages and backgrounds to a celestial celebration.

At this festival, you can peer through telescopes to observe stars, planets, and the moon, participate in interactive educational activities, and attend lectures by esteemed astronomers.

With outdoor film screenings, a vendor fair featuring astronomy related merchandise, and engaging nature-themed activities, this event combines entertainment and education to create a memorable experience under the starry skies.

Where and When is the Festival?

The Astronomy Festival will occur at Tower Grove Park St. Louis at the west end of the park, West Dr, St. Louis, MO, 63110. There is no admission fee, and the event is free, although some exhibits will be ticketed to ensure reasonable capacity.

The event will occur from 3:00p to 9:00p, Sat., Sept. 30, with many educational and engaging events for all audiences.

What is the Astronomy Festival Itinerary of Events?

The Astronomy Festival will begin early Saturday afternoon with a vendor fair and transition into entertainment and educational events. Here is an itinerary of the festival:

  • 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.: Explore the Vendor Fair at the West End of Tower Grove Park, featuring hands-on educational activities and exhibits from various partners, including rocket launches and solar telescope viewing.
  • 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.: Enjoy a special outdoor screening of "Wall-E" at the West End of the park, facing east into a grassy field. Bring your picnic blankets or chairs for a comfortable viewing experience.
  • 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.: Immerse yourself in the Mobile Planetarium Star Shows at Piper Palm House. These 15-minute planetarium shows offer captivating views of constellations and celestial wonders.
  • 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.: Head over to the Stone Shelter for an Astronomy on Tap lecture, featuring a presentation on fascinating space-related topics.
  • 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.: Join a Night Hike led by a Naturalist through the West End of the park. Explore the nocturnal world and discover the wildlife that calls Tower Grove Park home.
  • 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.: Experience Stargazing and Telescope Viewing at the Stone Shelter. Observe the full Harvest Moon, planets, and stars through telescopes provided by the St. Louis Astronomical Society.
