Welcome to the World Chess Hall of Fame

Located in the vibrant Central West End neighborhood of St. Louis, the World Chess Hall of Fame (WCHOF) is one of the most popular attractions for chess enthusiasts and casual players alike.

Established to honor chess's notable achievements and historical narrative, the Hall of Fame offers a deep dive into the lives and legacies of the game’s most influential players. It houses both the U.S. and World Chess Halls of Fame, where inductees stand proudly alongside the greats of chess history.

The WCHOF's history traces back to its founding in 1986 in New Windsor, New York, before moving to St. Louis in 2011, now recognized globally as the chess capital of the United States.
Today, the Hall of Fame serves as a historical archive and a cultural center that hosts a variety of exhibitions, events, and educational programs. Through its dynamic community involvement, the WCHOF continues to promote the rich heritage of chess and its ongoing relevance in modern society.
