Celebrating the St. Patrick's Day in St. Louis

Every year, residents of St. Louis flock downtown for the annual St. Patrick's Day parade. The parade is one of the largest festivals in the city and offers fun for all participants.

The 54th anniversary of the parade will be held on March 11th, 2023, to honor the rich Irish heritage of St. Louis. Come downtown this year to watch as floats, marching bands, and Irish dancers make their way through downtown St. Louis, dressed in green and adorned with shamrocks.
Where is the St. Patrick's Day Parade?
The St. Patrick's Day parade begins in downtown St. Louis at 20th & Market, just five minutes away from Lehmann House Bed & Breakfast.

Regardless of the weather, the parade beings at noon and continues for a few hours, ending at Broadway & Clark, just walking distance from the St. Louis Gateway Arch.

As the parade regularly sees over 250,000 viewers, I recommend getting there early to find a good spot. Much of the viewing space is greeneries with vendors, performers, and plenty of drinks available before and during the parade.
How Large is the Parade?
The parade has about 120 units, including the following performers:

Marching bands
Floats
Massive cartoon character balloons
Clowns
Dancers
And over 5000 Marchers

Additionally, many St. Louis politicians and dignitaries from Ireland represent the beautiful Irish heritage of the city and its influence on our unique melting pot culture.

When Did Irish Immigrants Come to St. Louis?

Irish immigrants originally came to St. Louis in the 19th century, where the French-based population was predominantly Catholic and more accepting of Irish immigrants than in protestant-based cities.

Following the Irish potato famine, immigrants flocked to St. Louis in Carr Square from County Kerry in Ireland, an area locals call the "Kerry Patch."

While these immigrants fled difficult times, they made a home in St. Louis and helped contribute to the variegated and beautiful culture here, celebrated with the annual parade.

When Will the Parade Be in 2023?

The parade will occur on March 11th, the weekend before St. Patrick's Day, at 12 noon.

Because of the number of participants, parking may be limited, and the best location for parking in the area is Union Station. Additionally, if you're staying at Lehmann House Bed and Breakfast, the parade is a short walk from Lafayette Square.
